Below is a general overview of our approach to a typical project although it is, of course, subject to circumstance, site conditions and specific client requirements.

Investigation

Typically, our clients approach us following a site investigation that has revealed contamination issues on the site

Analysis

Soil and groundwater samples are sent to quality-approved laboratories for analysis, usually using our in-house capabilities for maximum efficiency.

Recommendation

Our expertise combined with site scale pilot testing and laboratory-based waste treatment trials ensures we can consistently alight on solutions that are economical, sustainable and, above all, deliverable.

Implementation

Based on data compiled during the aforementioned phases, we can design the remediation system to suit specific site and/or client requirements. Innovation is our watchword. Unlike many of our competitors, we can also operate and maintain the systems we design, offering you the best possible value for time and money and avoiding the logistics of dealing with several consultants/contractors.

Project management summary

RemedX's key account strategy uses dedicated account and programme teams to ensure effective, transparent communication and that resources are always available to meet your needs.

Our approach to adding value to client/project includes:

  • A vast array of environmental support services, including drilling and laboratory resources, enabling us to meet tight deadlines
  • Implementing efficiency-related performance indicators such as design cost to total contract value, reporting cost/time as a ratio of total site assessment and cost/schedule for an element of a programme of sites
  • Involving solution providers early on in the assessment process
  • Networking of technical experts from our centres of expertise in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and Germany to apply state-of-the-art solutions and shorten learning curves for new technology. This strategy has paid real dividends in the application of remediation technology, new site screening techniques and site risk assessment, especially where NAPLs are present.

Stakeholder and regulatory collaboration and negotiation

Through working for both industrial landowners and brownfield site developers, RemedX has developed a good rapport with EA representatives and local authority EHOs throughout England, Wales and Scotland. In addition, RSK Group currently employs individuals that have either worked for or been seconded into the regulatory communities in England and Scotland, giving our risk assessment teams and our project managers an insider's view of how the regulator may assess our projects.

All RSK quantified risk assessment, project management and remedial design teams are trained in the practical application of contaminated land legislation. As a measure of our level of expertise, RSK frequently offers legislative-awareness training to our clients.
RSK is widely recognised as being at the vanguard of site investigation has had its procedures for land acquisition and development adopted by the National House-Building Council to support its Land Quality initiative. We are also actively involved in research in this area in collaboration with, among others, CIRIA, the Soil Guideline Value Task Force, DEFRA's Contaminated Land Forum and the Environment Agency division dealing with the definition of waste.
